The litter is all over my hard wood floor it looks like dry white paint spots.

I m thinking of a rubber mat that d be much easier to keep clean. Find a good cat litter that your cat likes. It seems that some litter is worse than other litter. Litter box problems with cats are not unusual and can be the result of several issues.
